About From Mud

A widow mom embarks on a journey of resilience through loss–but with a wellness twist

Hi! Welcome to From Mud. I’m Isabel.

I am a Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES), Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES), and Certified Fitness Trainer (CFT). I have over 13 years of experience working as a health educator and coach. I’m also a widowed mom to toddlers. In 2024, my husband, Justin passed away tragically after a 2 year battle with cancer. He was the love of my life for 16 years and together we made two beautiful babies–a boy (now 5 y/o) and a girl (now 3 y/o). Our story may be a sad one by most people’s standards but the devastating loss we’ve experienced to cancer–will not stand alone. After he passed, I was determined to share our story in hopes that I could use my expertise combined w/ my experience and that perhaps I could support and connect w/ others who are also going through the same thing we did or other challenging life situations and losses. It’s hard to stay well and take care of ourselves when there’s so much to grieve in a human lifetime. And that’s what From Mud is all about. Realness. Acknowledging that life can be hard a lot of the time. And being resilient in the face of that. Growing from the dense cold mucky circumstances we never asked for and creating something beautiful and resilient from it–like the beautiful lotus flower floating effortlessly on the surface. You almost wouldn’t know it’s seed grew in that mud. But there it is–proud and shining after all the hard stuff it went through to get there. That’s you. That’s me. That’s what it is to be human. We can go through so much and yet healing and strength can be borne out of such painful circumstances.

So if you are looking for a place where someone is going to be real about how hard life can be and how much it can hurt. And you want to connect w/ someone who sees that. Who can hold space for that. And who will always be your cheerleader. Someone who gets it. And hopefully someone who can even help you take care of yourself through all of that–you’ve come to the right place.

Welcome and please–stay a while 🙂

Wishing you health and Happiness,

Isabel
